The historic Pine Island Hunt Club covers thousands of acres of marsh and beach between the Outer Banks communities of Duck and Corolla. While all the marshlands and sound side property has been given to the Audubon Society and become The Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary, the ocean side property has been developed into a 2 mile stretch of bright, contemporary beach houses of considerable size and character. Almost all the lots have been developed. Now, in the year 2000, several large family homes are offered for sale.

Pine Island is regarded as the ‘glamour stock’ of the Outer Banks. The houses are large and intended to accommodate gatherings of families and friends. The decor and fittings are luxurious. Tile finishes are used extensively in kitchens and bathrooms, many of which have whirlpool tubs. Great rooms and dens feature large screen TVs with VCRs, while there is usually a ground level game/club room with a bar leading out to the pool/hot tub, patio and barbecue area. Houses are set up to provide "five star" beach living.

The Pine Island community has a very large swimming pool and picnic area high on the dunes overlooking the ocean. In addition, there is a second pool and tennis courts at the north end of the community. Bike and jogging trails wind for miles throughout the community, connecting each area. There is also a nature trail through the adjoining Audubon Sanctuary. The Pine Island Racquet Club is a handsome indoor tennis and racquet ball facility.

A few miles south, The Sanderling Health Club and Spa offer health, fitness, and revival, along with an indoor pool. Fine restaurants and shopping are to be enjoyed in Duck to the south and Corolla to the north. Pine Island is 1 1/2 hours from Norfolk Airport, which has frequent flights to major cities.
